Enter year-old Guan Tianlang. He came into the event ranked th in the world among amateurs. He was a nobody. Back home, he's an 8th-grader at the prestigious Zhixin High School, where he learned to speak English fluently. He has to do a pile of homework at Augusta when he's not playing alongside the world's best. Already this week he has played a practice round with Tiger Woods. He wasn't born yet when Tiger won his 1st Masters in Just making the cut would be a massive, massive surprise for him.
His average drive is only yards, meaning he'll struggle to reach par-5s and some par-4s in two shots. Not everyone is on board with him playing, Arnold Palmer said playing at Augusta at year-old could hurt him.
But Tianlang's Masters appearance isn't just about him, it's about the future of golf in China. Golf in China is in its infancy, but a homegrown star like Tianlang would do wonders for its popularity. Now see what drives his idol. Manhole cover thief charged in the Pudong New Area. I feel terrible. He is 14 years old. I'm so sorry this has happened. Manassero held the record of being the youngest to make a major cut when at the age of 16 he qualified for the last two days of the Open. The Italian said Guan did take too long on his shots. But most of the times that he takes a little too long he just asks questions that I think he knows, but just to be sure, just to be clear in his mind. Fred Couples, the champion, was reluctant to criticise Guan's penalty saying the rules should be applied just as strictly to the teenager despite his tender years.
He beat a lot of guys yesterday, whatever the age he is. Guan also became the youngest player to make the cut in a PGA Tour event, breaking the year-old record held by Canadian Bob Panasik, who was 15 when he made it through to the last two rounds of the Canadian Open.

Slow play has blighted golf for years, none of the big names are ever sanctioned for it; the minute they are it'll stop, but none of the officials have the balls to do it.

Just so long a the rules are applied, without fear or favour to everyone. Having spectated at many tour events, not sure this is always the case. More worrying could be that young players have grown up watching slow play from their heroes and copy them. Is this the future!! Absolutely ridiculous! What a joke these officials are! I hope he makes the cut and inspires other youngsters to take up the game.
