She'll eventually win the title, but they're really driving hard at this "Queen of the pay-per-view" angle with Charlotte. If that PPV winning streak is broken, it won't be here with 'Mania closely down the road and needing that storyline. Prediction: Charlotte Flair retains the title -- MS. I've gone back and forth with a prediction on this match for weeks. On one hand, Styles could continue his year-long run of dominance -- he made his debut at the Royal Rumble -- with yet another victory over Cena as he takes the strap into WrestleMania.
On the other, Cena has finally returned to WWE full-time and appears rejuvenated. Whether Cena fails or succeeds in winning the belt, WWE can continue pushing him towards being just slightly less of a babyface. Outside of either Styles or Cena going up against the Royal Rumble winner at WrestleMania, is there any other match for the world title that would make sense at the WWE's biggest show of the year except these two facing each other?
It is to that end that I think we either see a rematch or Cena vs. Prediction: John Cena wins the title -- AS. Styles was the best thing that happened in the company in , maybe save for the Team Kevin and Chris marriage and the ensuing comedy factor. He's been an outstanding champion, and let's hope he gets a big-time match at WrestleMania. But I think Cena's slated for bigger things heading to the biggest event of the year.
Prediction: John Cena wins the title -- MS. Universal Championship -- Kevin Owens c vs. Roman Reigns No disqualifications. The hate for Reigns is not justified. Is he poor on the mic? But he's a damn entertaining wrestler who is stuck with a bad gimmick and no direction from WWE. No matter what you think of him, Reigns walking into WrestleMania with the title is not the answer, though I see a way it could happen.
With Seth Rollins not participating in the Royal Rumble and Chris Jericho in a shark cage above the ring, Rollins takes it upon himself to interfere in the match and help Reigns win -- whether this happens after Jericho gets out of the cage or if he never does is of little importance.
Rollins would be costing Triple H's hand-picked champion the belt, instigating him even further. But now that I've laid this out for you, allow me to note that I don't believe it happens. The latter two won by disqualification after Braun Strowman came out and attacked both.
Stephanie then scheduled Rollins to face Strowman, but lost by disqualification when Sami Zayn attacked Strowman. Reigns later defended the United States Championship against Owens. The end of the match came when Jericho distracted Reigns and Owens performed the Codebreaker on Reigns for a near fall.
Rollins then came out and delivered a Pedigree to Jericho. Owens super kicked Rollins and returned to the ring but was hit with a spear from Reigns, who won the match and retained the title. Rollins then delivered a Pedigree to Owens, and Reigns speared Jericho.
On the December 20 episode, however, Baron Corbin confronted Ziggler, calling him undeserving of a title shot and stated that Ziggler only won because he was not there. The two then had a match with Ziggler's title shot on the line, but it ended in a double count-out. Styles then attacked both Ziggler and Corbin with a chair.
That episode, John Cena returned from a near three-month hiatus and challenged the winner for the title at the Royal Rumble. After Styles retained the WWE Championship, Cena came out, looking ready to fight, but instead congratulated him with a handshake. Cena and Styles will have a contract signing on the January 3, episode.
The following Raw , Charlotte declared herself to be the greatest female wrestler of all time, but was then interrupted by Bayley , who reminded Charlotte that she was 2—0 against her.
Bayley then pinned Charlotte in an impromptu non-title match. However, replays showed that Charlotte had her shoulder up before the three count. The following week, Charlotte revealed that she worked with her and WWE's lawyers and Bayley's win the previous week was revoked, but Charlotte allowed Bayley to face her in another non-title match, but this time with Dana Brooke as guest referee.
Bayley lost after a fast three count by Dana. Perkins and The Brian Kendrick. After the match, Neville appeared and attacked both Swann and Perkins, turning heel. The following night on Raw , Neville stated his intention to take out the entire cruiserweight division, and proclaimed himself to be "King of the Cruiserweights".
Swann questioned Neville's actions but, was then attacked by Neville and Kendrick, who sided with Neville. Perkins tried to help Swann, but was overpowered by Neville. John: Neville is one of the best characters on either show right now. All it took was a much needed heel turn after he was off TV for much of the time after the brand split. They were wasting his talent, but now they are maximizing it. We could be looking at the best cruiserweight match that WWE has had on their main roster.
Royal Rumble Swann vs. Neville — who wins? Kurt: Leave it to the Raw writers to finally give Bayley the push she deserves, only to ruin by making her recite awful poems that makes the crowd turn on her. Matt: I have two opposing thoughts here.
On the one hand, I like this rivalry. On paper it makes sense. These two women are diametrically opposed archetypes and forces. Their promos are vastly different, their looks are completely different, these two women contrast one another so well, that they are the perfect compliment for each other. Is her history on NXT cannon? Because it adds a lot to the character. Having seen it all, I get and respect her character and the worker immensely, but they never cite her history or prior accomplishments, and I know not every fan watches NXT, so her entire existence is confusing on the main roster.
Mike: Did you know that Charlotte never loses at pay-per-views? Full disclosure: Bayley does nothing for me. I do see her eventually going over Charlotte, if just for the merchandising options and appeal alone, but not at the Rumble. Charlotte will be this close to getting beat and pull it out in the end. The promo two weeks ago with the poem was brutal because the crowd was booing Bayley for how lame it was. Last week with the sit-down interviews was okay, but it was nothing that got me any more excited about the match.
There have been enough title changes with this title in the last six months. Let a champion have a decent reign for once, or at least until WrestleMania in this case. Royal Rumble Charlotte vs. Bayley — who wins? Roman Reigns. Stipulation: Chris Jericho will be suspended above the ring in a shark cage.
You can purchase your own version here! The stipulation got even dumber when they announced it was a no disqualification match on Monday. If there are no disqualifications, why should Jericho have to be suspended above in the cage? Nonetheless, in order for the ball to start rolling for Owens vs. I expect a really good, hard hitting match. I see Jericho dropping something from the cage to try and help Owens and either it backfires or Owens uses it but Reigns still kicks out and then ultimately defeats Owens.
Then the next night on Raw, Owens can start blaming Jericho for him losing the title and thus starts the Y2J face turn. The storytelling has been fairly simple here, with Owens and Jericho sewing the seeds for their eventual feud while working together to undermine Roman Reigns in a chase for the United States Championship that probably went on a little too long, to the point where the outcome became painfully obvious.
It seems fairly obvious that Roman Reigns is winning the belt at The Royal Rumble, setting up for a much-anticipated feud between Owens and Jericho. Where Roman goes from here is up for speculation.
He still leaves a lot to be desired as a character and is as miscast as anybody on the roster. Maybe not. One thing is for sure, nobody will be surprised if Roman takes the Universal Championship this Sunday with Jericho hanging high above in a Shark Cage. Can we move on already please? The dynamic of team JeriKO has propelled Raw for several months now, and on the opposite side of the ledger Roman Reigns was quietly rewarded with the United States Title to pacify his fans while the general public continued to vehemently foam at the mouth over the prospect of him being Universal Champ.
Jericho will certainly not be remaining in the cage for the whole match, and the no-DQ rule brings up some interesting possibilities should Seth Rollins understandably get something to do while evening the odds for Team Roman.
That much is unfortunately and totally assured. Now that Jericho is unable to cheat due to being in a cage or so we think , it should mean a win for Reigns now that he has a fair fight.
Royal Rumble Owens vs. Add content advisory. Did you know Edit. User reviews 2 Review. Top review. The road to Wrestlemania. Some good early matches. The disappointing part for this years rumble was that it's building to wrestlermania and due to the set ups for the next event a lot of wrestlers spent a lot of time on the canvas letting two stars square off or all lying around waiting for the countdown to the next partisapant arrival.
An enjoyable easy watch probably won't have many long living wrestling moments. Some famous face offs. Details Edit. Release date January 29, United States.
